This couple.  I just adore them.  I was asked to photograph Chris and Carly’s wedding in Mexico and of course I jumped at the chance!  The venue was absolutely gorgeous and the little hut on the ocean was the perfect spot for this laid back couple to say “I do”.  One of my favorite moments of the day was when Carly was getting into her dress and her mom, sister and dear family friend were all three trying to zip up her dress with the light from a cell phone.  And don’t even get me started on Chris and Carly’s first look.  I have known Chris for a while and I don’t think I have ever seen him beam with joy as much as I did when he turned around to see his bride for the first time that day.  He and his groomsmen looked super handsome at a cool old shack location that we found.  I could have shot their all day and been happy.

The ceremony was beautiful and tailored to Chris and Carly since the officiant was a close friend.  Not a dry eye in the house.  Chris and Carly decided to have their first dance AT the ceremony immediately after their first kiss.  It was super sweet and absolutely unique.  After the ceremony, I took the whole bridal party around the resort for some photo ops.  It was a sprinkly, overcast day so we had to get creative with our location choices and run outside when it stopped raining for a bit.  This bridal party was so much fun and up for any of Carly and I’s wild ideas, which made for some awesome images (and outtakes that I will hold hostage forever!).

The highlight of my day has to be the reception!  Carly’s mom gave a speech that I will never forget that ended with Chris getting a shirt that says “I’m the favorite”.  HA!  The shirt made an appearance later on in the night as well.  Everyone let loose on the dance floor and had the time of their lives.

Thank you, Chris and Carly, for allowing me to document your special, one-of-a-kind day!  I wish you all the years of love and happiness.

Ok, you’ve booked your family session with Vintage Grain Photography.  Now the big question, what do you wear?  Here are a few tips when picking out you and your family’s outfits for your session.

-Stick to mostly solid colors.  Choose one person to wear a pattern like a plaid, floral or other small print and everyone else can wear a solid color.

-I’m a big fan of using the color wheel to select coordinating colors for a session.  Choose three or less colors next to each other from the wheel and plan your outfits around those colors.  You can also choose complimentary colors by selecting two colors right across from each other on the wheel.  Throw in some neutrals like beige, gray or off-white as well!

The Janke family did a great job using the color wheel as well as using only one pattern!

I love neutrals as well, depending on the time and location of the shoot.  Off-white colors and mixed textures are really “in” right now.  Hazel and her momma Katie are a good example of this.

-Add a fun accessory like a scarf or necklace for women, but make sure it isn’t too distracting.

-Lastly, BE YOURSELF!  If you wouldn’t wear it outside of the photo shoot, don’t wear it for the photo shoot.

My good friend Nikki is due in October and I am beyond excited for her and her sweet family!  I have no doubt big sister Ali will be SO sweet with her little brother and I am counting down the days until I get to meet him.  We had the most gorgeous light for our session and I just love how the images turned out.  Ali is a little ham and even talked me into going on a bear hunt with her…so stinkin’ cute!

I had the pleasure of meeting the Janke family for their family/Ellington’s 6-7 month photos.  They brought the cutest wooden rocking horse that Ellington’s grandfather made- how cool is that?  We couldn’t have asked for a better morning with the cooler temperatures although we had to fight off a few mosquitoes.  So worth it for these sweet pictures!
